Design Philosophy

Ever since I was little, I've been fascinated by storytelling. I loved narratives, whether they were fictional or grounded in real life. It wasn't until I started pursuing a bachelor’s degree that I realized that design could, too, tell stories and solve problems.

Design is personal. And, intricately, political.

Design is personal because regardless of our intentions, we inevitably inject our experiences and views into the designs we bring into existence. Design is political because we breathe power into the designs we create that invariably influence people’s lives and shape people’s decisions.

In my early stages of a potential career in design, I’m still exploring what design means to me, how I can be a better designer, and ways I can contribute to the maturing industry. I want to go beyond the Sketch plugin tricks and common UX patterns to create meaningful work and play.

As of this writing, I feel called towards service design – the (re)organization of people, services, and processes.

More will be written about this philosophy in due time.
